The HortiContact Innovation Award 2024

The Dutch greenhouse horticulture sector faces various challenges, which is why it is important that the sector continues to innovate. HortiContact wants to offer innovations within the sector a platform, which is why we have introduced the HortiContact innovation Award. The Innovation Award has now become a permanent part of HortiContact, giving innovations from the sector the platform they deserve.

Nominated innovations

1. RECOVER | Beaulieu Technical Textiles

The woven ground cloth is designed to meet stricter criteria for durability and longer life. The woven cloth offers temperature stability, healthy water management and efficient weed control. The solution with recycled material reduces the CO2 impact and is made for recycling.

2. 4MT Buffer Station | 4More Technology

4MT Buffer station makes it possible to process 3x as many sortings on the surface of 1 forest station. The roses are buffered in a belt-belt station. This fits approximately 30-40 roses. As soon as the station is full, an alarm will sound. The employee can then easily empty the station.

4. Backie slakkenval Studio Catch Horticulture Solutions | Houweling Horticulture

The simple yet effective design is aimed at luring snails with wheat bran, after which they can no longer get out of the trap. The lure retains its effect for months, meaning the trap can remain in the greenhouse for a longer period of time. The attracting effect of the trap is further enhanced by the shape of the trap, which is optimized for air flow.

5. Tuinbouw ledlamp met Infra Red | Photon Dancing BV

Horticultural LED lamp with Infra Red LEDs. The 1050watt horticultural LED lamp has a unique LED combination of Par light (RGB) and Infra red (IR). This lamp can heat the crop and plant with its infrared LED, infrared radiation. At the same time also provide the Par light, grow light. All equipped with LED, so that energy savings remain intact.

6. Horti Optimal Concept | Led-E-Lux

The patented water-cooled click-in hanging system is used to hang and cool the fixtures. With the application of the Modbus Protocol in Horti Armaturen, up to 250 lamps can be controlled from one control unit and at the same time send more than 100 different control signals and receive more than 100 signals per individual lamp.

With this concept, DCM offers various products that act on various growth stages of a tomato plant. The action of the products can be about vegetative or generative actions, but also includes a biological crop protection product, all with the aim of creating a vital plant.

8. Dynamic trekdraad | Huisman Screensystems

The load on the pulling wires of the screen installations is increasing. Huisman has developed a pulling wire that is suitable for this: Dynamic steel wire. After an extensive test period, it has been shown that the Dynamic pulling wire can handle up to 10 times more screen movements and can therefore last up to 10 times longer than the traditional pulling wire.

9. Model SE450W | Sprinkler Energy

This innovation concerns the use of the energy present in the water supplies available to gardeners, among others. With the extracted energy, the Model SE450W is able to heat the water in a central heating system to a maximum of 65°C. The minimum gas saving is therefore 60%.

10. Coolgrow VF | Mechatronix

The CoolGrow®VF is a groundbreaking vertical farm lamp that emerged from a collaboration between Colruyt Group and MechaTronix.
Instead of a classic system of light bars that illuminate the plants directly, the CoolGrow®VF works with indirect and diffuse light. The entire growing space is equipped with highly reflective cladding, so that both the ceiling and the side walls become a source of light for the plants. The light photons are thus used optimally without any loss of light.
